H2-Today WeeklyWeek 36 · 25–31 Aug 2026 · compiled 31 Aug 2026
A quiet week by this series' recent standards — no new global FID, no confirmed cancellation — but the cost and disclosure trends kept moving the way they have for a month. TTF gas hit €68.82/MWh on 31 August, up 114.7% year-on-year and a third straight weekly gain, as the Strait of Hormuz threat stayed at UKMTO's highest "severe" rating with no diplomatic breakthrough. thyssenkrupp nucera cut its FY25/26 guidance even as nine-month green-hydrogen order intake nearly doubled to €471m — order book and P&L pulling in opposite directions. On water, H2 La Joya's intake source was pinned down for the first time — EDAR Guadalhorce treated wastewater, not groundwater — while Moeve Carteia's actual water-rights notice went unlocated for a third consecutive edition. One thread needs resolving next week: an unverified 27 Aug headline claiming Australia's biggest green hydrogen project halved in size — every fetch attempt 403'd and no second outlet corroborated it.
1 · Production and pipeline
Global aggregates — IEA Global Hydrogen Review 2026 baseline, unchanged this week
No new global FID and no confirmed cancellation found 25–31 August. Two FuelCellsWorks headlines this week (Australia "halves in size," 27 Aug; China "second hydrogen city cluster pilot," 25 Aug) returned 403 errors on every fetch attempt and could not be corroborated by any second outlet — reported as open items in §8, not adopted as fact.
2 · Prices and costs
Input cost drivers, 25–31 August 2026, vs W35 baseline
LCOH, HYDRIX/Hydex/Platts/Argus and ammonia prices remain entirely unretrievable for a fourth or fifth consecutive week — figures above are the last verified prints, clearly stale, not current-week data. EU Hydrogen Bank auction 4 consultation closed 24 Aug; feedback webinar 8 Sep 2026, 10:30–12:00 CEST.
3 · Spain and the EU
The ambition gap and the Spanish project pipeline
Moeve Carteia: a third BOJA candidate (166/2026) checked and ruled out — unrelated 1995-vintage water file. The actual water-rights notice has gone unlocated for three consecutive editions. H2 La Joya: water source confirmed as EDAR Guadalhorce (⑤ treated wastewater reuse) — see §7. Repsol Cartagena: primary gazette text with water conditions still unlocated, fifth consecutive edition.
4 · Germany
Project scoreboard, with water source classification per project
HySCALE100 cancellation now fully attributed to its consortium (Raffinerie Heide, Ørsted, Holcim, Hynamics) — second collapse at this site after Westküste100 (2023). Correction: the Linde Leuna €4.3m Förderbescheid is dated 13 Aug 2025, not 2026 — over a year old, not a recent development.
5 · Hydrogen refuelling network
Direction of travel, not headcount — track openings, closures and net change
Spain and Europe: COULD NOT RETRIEVE a current national/continental count this week — every canonical source (h2.live, h2-map.eu, LBST/h2stations.org, Clean Hydrogen observatory) is either JS-rendered and unfetchable, or gated (h2-map.eu API: 401, credentials required). Andalusia: HVR Energy cites Granada now accelerated to before end-2026 (from 2027), single-sourced. HUB LA ISLA H2 (Dos Hermanas): freshest dated mention is 3 Oct 2025 calling it "absolutely complete" — flagged for verification, not upgraded.
6 · Electrolysers
Technology status, manufacturing utilisation, OEM order books, project usage
Technology comparison
Standing technology-reference ranges (IEA/IRENA-consistent industry typicals) — not fresh research this week; included for context.
Manufacturing capacity vs utilisation
OEM order books — this week's standout
Project usage mapping
ITM Power's FY2026 results remain unpublished, now 2.5+ weeks overdue — a live, escalating, unexplained gap across three consecutive editions. EU auction 4's ≥75% non-Chinese electrolyser content rule: no finalisation or new industry pushback found this week.
7 · Water intake and climate-relevant project screening
Taxonomy classification, disclosure gap, and permit risk — not cost
This week's genuine step forward: H2 La Joya reclassifies from an implicit, unclassified dry/hybrid reading to a formal ⑤ treated wastewater reuse entry (EDAR Guadalhorce, confirmed via elconciso). A concerning, unresolved recurrence: the same source restates >2,000 alegaciones — the exact figure this series formally corrected away previously in favour of ~300 + COAG. Flagged for a dedicated recheck, not adopted. Benchmarks unchanged: stoichiometric minimum 9 L/kg · realistic all-in ~20 L/kg temperate, ~30 L/kg Mediterranean, up to 39 L/kg hot arid.
8 · The week's movements
Negative findings, stated deliberately: no new global FID; no confirmed cancellation beyond the already-known HySCALE100; no new offtake/supply deal outside Europe; no 45V/DOE H2Hubs/IRS action; no new Japan/Korea policy news; no new Middle East corridor deal; no PERTE ERHA round 3; no H2Med/backbone news; no August EU infringements package; no fresher EWI/dena capacity dataset or fourth Kernnetz Marktinformationspaket; no fresher refuelling-station count for Germany, Spain, Andalusia or Europe.
